Junko Hikasa was born in Tamakatsu, Japan, in a family of artists.
Her mother thaught her first dance steps at the age of 3 years, while her father gave her piano lessons.
With 15 years old, one of famous japanease choreographer Mr.Naoto Seki discover her talent, brought her to Tokyo. In the year of 1973, Junko got a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Japan to study in the Ballet School of Tachibana in Tokyo under the direction of Asami Maki, and three years later she graduated the ballet school and performed for her graduation main roll of the Swan Lake with honours.
In 1976, she became a soloist of the Asami Maki Ballet Tokyo.
There she danced several creations of Japanese choreographers and guest choreographer such as Terry Westmorland, Peter Wright, Roy Tobias, Peter Darrel, William Doller, Jack Carter, Anthony Tudor, Ted Borender, and George Balanchine.
In 1979, her participation at the First International Ballet Competition in Jackson city USA. She received the finalist prize and special compliment by her contemporary potential.
In the 1980 and 1981 she was warded the prize of Best Dancer of the year by the Japanese Ballet Magazine and also she received the prize of the Best Dancer of the year from Akiko Tachibana Ballet Foundation.
In 1982, she was chosen as a member of the International Art and Culture Exchange from The Japanese Government, and Junko Hikasa choose to familiarize her ballet technique with French style by Raymond Franchetti and Rosella Hightower in France and Balanchine style by New York City Ballet under the teachers such as Stanley Williams, Suki Schorer, Helgi Tomasson, Robert Denvers and Alexandra Danilova.
When she returns to Japan and after a sequence of performances with Guest Dancers from Paris and New York, Junko got several offers to dance as Guest Soloist in Tokyo.
Also she was invited for the Ballet Festival Rome in Italy and in Spain as guest soloist.
In 1984, she decided to make her dance career in Europe, Junko Hikasa danced at the State Theater in Darmstadt, Saarbrücken, Dortmund, Göttingen, Kassel, Hanover in Germany and the State Opera Theater in St. Gallen, Lucerna in Switzerland.
Junko Hikasa started to make her choreograph career in Saarbrücken, Germany in 1986 by the “Young Choreograph” produced by the State Theater and performed every year, meantime she choreographed also for the ballet competition in Japan, The Summer Ballet Festival in Tokyo and also Musical, Opera in Japan.
Year 1991, when she moved to State Opera Ballet Theater Hanover in Germany, there she met Mr.Mehmet Balkan as Chief Ballet Master and Choreographer that time. He created for Junko Hikasa the Ballet “Relationships” which was the world premiere in Tokyo and Takamatsu, Japan in 1994. The Ballet had great success and he got a prize as Best Choreographer in the Year from The Japanease Dance Magazine. Same year performed same ballet also in State Opera Theater Hanover, Germany.
Since 1994, Mr.Balkan gave Junko the opportunity to assist his all ballet.
In Japan, Junko Hikasa continue her ballet creation and in 1996 she received the prize for Best Choreograph for her “Bolero”performed in Tokyo by the All Japan Ballet Association.
As Mr.Mehmet Balkan got his position as Ballet Director of the State Opera and Ballet Theater Hanover, he gave Junko Hikasa the possibility to study as Ballet Mistress in the State Theater Hanover.
Since then Junko Hikasa has been re-staging and rehearsing all Balkans ballets in several countries like Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey, Japan, as well as other ballets from other choreographers such as Robert North , Uwe Scholz and Heinz Spoerli.
1999-2002 Junko Hikasa did her duty as Chief Ballet Mistress and as Choreographer successfuly at The State Opera and Ballet Theater of Antalya and Ankara in Turkey.
In September 2003, she became as Assistant of the Artistic Director to the National Ballet of Portugal.
